23-Year-Old Argentinian Wonderkid Remains On West Ham’s Wishlist Despite New Contract

West Ham transfer target Kevin Lomonaco remains on the Hammers’ wishlist this summer despite signing a new contract with Independiente.

The Hammers are in need of a big summer transfer window this year after what has been a disappointing year following Graham Potter taking over from the sacked Julen Lopetegui earlier in the year.

Since joining at the London Stadium, Potter has amassed just four wins in 17 matches for the Hammers, and he will hope that after a summer transfer window in charge of West Ham, the former Chelsea and Brighton boss could help the Hammers to improve next year.

One player that they have been linked to signing is Independiente defender Kevin Lomonaco, who is one of the most promising prospects in the Argentinian league at the moment.

However, many believed that any deal could be off, as the 23-year-old recently signed a new contract at the club keeping him there until 2028. But, according to Argentinian outlet Avellaneda Hoy, despite the fact that he agreed a new contract, Independiente are planning to ‘cash-in’ on Lomonaco, meaning that a potential move to West Ham could still be on.

The defender has made 41 appearances for Independiente so far, scoring two goals both from corners. He would provide Potter with a physical, yet agile defender who could excel with the pace of the Premier League despite his lack of experience.

West Ham could sign centre-back duo

Lomonaco has been linked to the Hammers for a while now, but it is unlikely that they would want to rely on a 23-year-old inexperienced centre-back straight away in the Premier League.

Instead, they could sign him, and also sign previously linked defender Harry Maguire, who has a vast wealth of experience in the English top-flight – he could act as some form of mentor to Lomonaco too.

Maguire has just one year left on his contract from next season, meaning that Man United could be keen to cash in on him rather than letting him leave for free in summer 2026.
