West Ham “Have Enquired” About Signing 33 Year Old Defender 17 Months After Failed Trial

West Ham have registered an interest in Hull City defender John Egan, according to reports.

TalkSPORT reporter Alex Crook has revealed that the Hammers “have enquired” about recruiting the 33-year-old before the transfer window closes.

Egan also has other suitors, with Championship promotion contenders Ipswich Town said to be keen on the centre-back as well.

The Republic of Ireland international has been a regular starter this season, having started 24 of Hull’s 29 league games.

Egan has played an instrumental role in helping the Tigers challenge at the top of the Championship table. They are currently 3rd, just 5 points off the top two, Coventry City and Middlesbrough.

West Ham could have signed him for nothing last year

Egan was released on a free transfer by Sheffield United at the end of the 2023/24 season after struggling to recover from an Achilles injury.

He was handed a trial by the Irons in September 2024, and played in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Dagenham & Redbridge.

It was initially reported by insider ExWHUEmployee that Egan had done enough to earn himself a contract, but the club ultimately decided not to sign him. The Irishman subsequently joined Burnley before moving to Hull less than six months later.

Egan is not the only centre-half target under consideration

It is believed that West Ham have tabled an offer for Southampton’s Taylor Harwood-Bellis, but the opening proposal fell well short of the Saints’ valuation.

Chelsea’s Axel Disasi is another option that has been seriously considered, and it remains to be seen where the Frenchman will end up on Deadline Day.

After conceding three goals at the weekend, head coach Nuno Espirito Santo will be very keen to bring in reinforcements at the back before the transfer window shuts at 7 PM.
