BBC Confirm That West Ham Have Sealed £36.3M Transfer For Player Potter Says Can Reach “Really High Level”

West Ham will sign Jean-Clair Todibo on a permanent basis, according to the BBC.

Ipswich Town’s defeat to Newcastle at the weekend has officially ended their chances of staying up, and that has triggered a clause in Todibo’s loan.

The Frenchman originally joined from Nice on a temporary deal until the end of the season, but a condition of the move was that the Hammers would sign him for £36.3m if they retained their Premier League status.

Ipswich’s relegation means that Todibo will now become a West Ham player as of July 1st.

Potter has spoken about the West Ham defender recently

It is fair to say that Todibo has had a tough start to life at the London Stadium. While he has shone in certain games, fitness problems have really limited his impact. Speaking about the centre-back earlier this week, head coach Graham Potter predicted that there is a lot more to come from him:

“I think it was a bit tough for him at the start because he arrived late to pre-season and then had injury problems. There was quite a lot of change last summer, but overall it’s not been that easy for those players who have come in.”

“But, I’ve really enjoyed working with JC. He’ll get better as he gets fitter and fitter, because he’s got some really high-level quality.”

Could Todibo be sold straight away?

There has been speculation that the Irons may look to offload the Frenchman as soon as his deal becomes permanent. The club are up against it in terms of complying with PSR so raising funds through sales is a necessity.

Todibo’s departure really depends on who wants to sign him and what they are prepared to pay. Manchester United have been linked with the 25-year-old previously, while there also said to be interest from Italy.
