West Ham Target 20 y/o Goalkeeper As Club Step Up Plans To Replace Areola

West Ham are weighing up a bid for Toulouse number one Guillaume Restes, according to reports in the French media.

Media Foot claim that the Hammers are “gradually advancing” in their attempts to sign the 20-year-old, who is believed to be valued at around €20m (£17m) by his club.

Despite Restes’s age, he has already racked up 92 first-team appearances, and he was France’s goalkeeper at the Olympics, having helped his country all the way to the final in 2024, where they lost to Spain on penalties.

This season, the shot-stopper has conceded 23 goals and kept 6 clean sheets in 18 appearances for Toulouse.

Restes is a Salthouse client

One of the reasons that makes this link very credible is the fact that the young Frenchman has recently switched agents to Unique Sports Group, which is run by Will Salthouse.

Chairman David Sullivan has close links to Salthouse, with West Ham having signed several players from his stable of clients over the years.

Restes is definitely a quality option, though, so even if he has been offered to Sullivan, he would definitely be someone that Nuno Espirito Santo and the club’s recruitment team would consider.

West Ham want to sign a new no.1 before the end of January

Mads Hermansen has only played once under Nuno in the FA Cup, and the Dane is clearly not someone that the Portuguese coach rates.

Alphonse Areola has started every league game since September, but based on recent reports, it seems Nuno is not completely happy with him either.

The Irons have pursued deals for the likes of Bento and Filip Jorgensen this month as they look for a better option in goal. Restes is the latest name to emerge, but we shall have to wait and see if a formal offer is tabled over the coming days.
