Olympiakos have “made a bid” for West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez, according to reports.

Sky Sports journalists Chris Reidy and Anthony Joseph claim that the Greek Super League side are hoping to snap up the Mexican international on loan.

Alvarez has been training with the first team since his return from Fenerbahce earlier this summer.

However, when asked about the player’s omission from the matchday squad for the season opener against Burnley, head coach Nuno Espirito Santo said:

“The transfer window is still open. We have to be ready for anything.”

Real Sociedad were tipped to make a move for the 28-year-old, but the La Liga side did not follow up with an official offer after making initial enquiries.

Alvarez’s former club Ajax have also been credited with an interest, but the Eredivisie have not made a concerted effort to sign him either.

West Ham could offload up to 5 players in the next week

It has been confirmed by multiple sources that El Hadji Malick Diouf will make the switch to Brentford. The Irons are expected to receive around £40m from the sale of the Senegalese international.

The left-back is said to be among five members of the first-team squad who could leave the London Stadium before the transfer window slams shut next week.

As well as Diouf and Alvarez, it is believed that Jean-Clair Todibo, Soungoutou Magassa and Maxwel Cornet may also move clubs. At the moment, only one of the five looks a dead cert to depart.

Selling Todibo and Alvarez, in particular, has been a challenge, with most suitors (including Olympiakos) seemingly only wanting them on a temporary basis. The club may ultimately decide to sanctions loans simply to get them off the wage bill.
