West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez is the subject of interest from several teams, according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.

Writing on his X account, the journalist revealed that Bundesliga side FC Cologne are “seriously pushing” to sign the Mexican international, but “more clubs are keen” on the player.

Alvarez spent last season out on loan at Fenerbahce. The Turkish Super Lig side did have an option to buy the 28-year-old, which was reported to be worth €22m (£18.8m), but they decided not to trigger the clause.

It means that Cologne and other teams are now vying to secure the player’s signature, having impressed with his performances at the World Cup.

Alvarez’s form for Mexico should help raise his asking price

The midfielder played an influential role in the World Cup group stages. He captained his country in the wins over South Korea and Czechia.

However, Alvarez was left on the bench for the round of 32 tie against Ecuador, and he came on at half-time during the 3-2 defeat to England in the last 16.

West Ham will be hoping that his form for Mexico will lead to several bids being made for him. At the moment, Cologne are said to be exploring a loan deal, but you can’t see such a proposal being accepted unless some sort of obligation to buy is included.

Other West Ham players are up for sale

The Athletic has confirmed that the Irons are open to offers for Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Arsenal have been mentioned as potential suitors in recent days, and it is believed that the right-back would be sold if a club tables a proposal in the region of £25m.

That would mean Nuno Espirito Santo’s side would receive a £10m profit on the defender they signed from Manchester United two years ago.
