West Ham Join 5 Team Battle For 6ft 5 Frontman Who Scored 22 Times In 31 Games Last Season

West Ham are weighing up a move for Hamburg striker Davie Selke on a free transfer, according to reports.

The 6ft 5 German could leave his current team when his contract expires next month and the Hammers are one of five potential destinations.

Fulham, newly-promoted Leeds, Championship side Watford and RB Leipzig are the other teams involved.

The Express reports that Selke is most likely to pick Leipzig if he does leave Hamburg but he may still consider a transfer to the Premier League if he receives an offer that is too good to turn down.

Why is Selke in such high demand?

The 30-year-old was playing in Germany’s second tier, Bundesliga-2, last season and his goals helped fire his team to promotion, scoring 22 times in 31 league appearances.

That scoring record, combined with the fact that he is available on a free, makes him an attractive target, especially for a team like West Ham who are not exactly flush with cash at the moment.

Head coach Graham Potter and Head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay are having to play smart in the transfer market and they are looking to take advantage of those who could soon be free agents – hence the interest in Selke.

West Ham are expected to prioritise other forwards

The Express claim that Selke is currently not at the top of the Hammers’ list of targets for the summer. A new No.9 is undoubtedly high on the agenda, with uncertainty over the future of Michail Antonio, as well as Evan Ferguson returning to Brighton.

However, there are better options out there, even among those who will be available on a free transfer, such as Lille’s Jonathan David, who scored 25 goals in all competitions last campaign.

In other news, a West Ham target could be available on loan but agreeing personal terms could be a problem
