Feyenoord defender David Hancko is at the centre of a tug-of-war involving several clubs, including West Ham, according to reports in the Dutch media.
The 27-year-old is expected to leave the Netherlands at the end of the season and he will not be short of suitors based on what Voetbal International are hearing.
They claim that the Hammers and Chelsea are just two of the “top clubs” who want to sign Hancko, while a high-profile team from Germany is also set to scout him in an upcoming fixture.
However, the biggest threat is expected to come from the Middle East. Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr are reportedly circling.
Feyenoord are hoping to break their transfer record
AC Milan paid €32m (£27m) for Santiago Gimenez during the January transfer window, which is the highest amount that Feyenoord have received for a player in their history.
Voetbal International report that the Eredivisie club are looking to get a fee higher than that for Hancko, which is something they could expect if Al-Nassr’s interest is serious.
West Ham are unlikely to match bids from rivals
While adding a defender of Hancko’s experience to the squad would be a big boost for Graham Potter, the costs involved do make such a deal pretty unrealistic.
Sources inside the club have repeatedly said that the Irons will need to sell before they buy this summer so it is hard to see how they can raise £25m without a high-profile exit from the London Stadium.
Reinforcing the centre of defence is one of club’s top priorities but securing the services of Burnley’s CJ Egan-Riley on a free transfer looks to be a more likely option at the moment. The signing of Hancko doesn’t seem to be on the cards currently.
