Chelsea Tell West Ham To Stump Up The Cash For £30M Midfielder As Hopes Of Loan Deal Are Shattered

West Ham do hold an “interest” in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall but Chelsea won’t sanction a loan deal, according to The Telegraph‘s Matt Law.

Speaking to the London Is Blue podcast, Law made it clear that the only way the Hammers are going to secure the midfielder’s services is if they come up with an offer to sign him on a permanent basis:

“West Ham, I think, have some level of interest in him. I think West Ham would be more interested in a loan, and I don’t see Chelsea wanting to loan him. He’s too good a squad addition for them to loan, albeit they would definitely sell him if the conditions were met.”

“I’m not sure what those conditions would be. He’s a funny one because… he’s proved a worth to them… but they’d definitely sell him if the right offer comes along… Fulham and West Ham are certainly teams I’ve heard of interest from.”

Dewsbury-Hall is one of several midfielders being targeted

It’s likely that Chelsea would want to get their money back on the 26-year-old. They paid £30m to bring him in from Leicester City last year.

For that price, West Ham may think there are better options out there. They have been linked with Liverpool pair Tyler Morton and Harvey Elliot who could cost a combined £55m.

Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz, Leicester’s Wilfred Ndidi and Shakhtar Donetsk’s Georgiy Sudakov are also under consideration.

West Ham don’t have the biggest transfer budget

The reason why the Irons want to explore a loan move for Dewsbury-Hall is because they don’t have a lot of headroom when it comes to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.

While the sale of Mohammed Kudus to Tottenham has freed up some funds, head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay and head coach Graham Potter will still have to play smart in the transfer market.

Luiz, for example, could be available on loan, after a fallout with Juve, while Ndidi has a £9m release clause in his contract. Both would make more financial sense than Dewsbury-Hall, unless Chelsea relent on their current stance.
