Potter Has ‘Decided’ Against Signing 23 Cap International After Assessing Player’s Chelsea Spell – Report

West Ham boss Graham Potter has “decided” not to pursue a move for Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, according to reports.

The forward, who has been capped 23 times by England, is on the market after Chelsea opted against keeping him.

Claret & Hugh claim that Sancho was “offered” to the Hammers by United, with the Red Devils hopeful of getting Mohammed Kudus in part exchange.

However, those discussions did not get off the ground following Potter’s decision not to sign Sancho.

After assessing feedback from Head of Recruitment Kyle Macaulay about Sancho’s time at Chelsea, Potter felt that he would not be a good fit.

Sancho’s numbers at Chelsea

The 25-year-old scored 5 goals and provided 10 assists in 41 appearances during his spell at Stamford Bridge. It isn’t exactly a bad return but those stats certainly don’t justify his wage demands.

Sancho reportedly earns £250,000 a week at Man United and the main reason why his move to Chelsea was not made permanent is due to his refusal to take a pay cut.

Of course, West Ham would not be willing to pay a wage anything close to that. Their joint highest earners are captain Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta who take home £150,000 a week.

What is the current situation with West Ham and Kudus?

At the time of writing, neither Chelsea, Manchester United, nor any other team have made a formal bid for the Ghanaian international.

A trusted BBC journalist confirmed that initial enquiries were made about Kudus last week with various swap deals discussed, but no agreement was reached.

Kudus’s £85m release clause is active for the first 10 days of July so it remains to be seen whether anyone will trigger it.
