Sky Journalist Provides Update On “Negotiations” As West Ham Plot Move For 6ft 3 Defender

West Ham have yet to open “negotiations” with Toulouse about signing centre-back Charlie Cresswell, according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.

The journalist has confirmed on X that the Hammers are interested in the 6ft 3 defender but no formal approach has been made so far:

“West Ham are keeping a close eye on Charlie Cresswell. However, there have been no concrete talks or negotiations yet.”

“The 23 y/o centre-back is under contract with Toulouse until 2028.”

West Ham need defensive reinforcements ASAP

The 3-0 defeat to previously winless Wolves has set off alarm bells around the club. Such a loss only emphasises how badly the Irons need a new centre-half.

While head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has managed to tighten things up at the back since his appointment, the London club have now overtaken Wolves in terms of conceding the most goals in the Premier League this season.

For that reason, recruiting someone like Cresswell is deemed a top priority before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

Cresswell wants to join the club

Last month, trusted insider source ExWHUEmployee revealed that the 23-year-old is keen on making the switch to the London Stadium.

Cresswell is a former England Under-21 international, but he moved across the channel to join Toulouse from Leeds at the start of last season.

The defender has had a very productive eighteen months in France, but it is clear that he would be open to a return home. It is now up to West Ham to table an offer that Toulouse would find acceptable.

Last summer, when the club’s interest in Cresswell was first revealed, it was reported that his price tag was appoximately €20m (£17.4m). It is not clear whether his valuation has increased since then.
