West Ham Are Hoping To Bring In £20M Rated Goalkeeper On Loan As Part Of Summer Squad Revamp

West Ham are looking to sign Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kelleher on loan, according to reports.

The Sun claims that the Hammers’ preference would be to snap up the Republic of Ireland international on a temporary basis this summer.

Graham Potter’s side are up against it in terms of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, so loaning Kelleher would help ensure that they don’t breach any regulations.

However, Liverpool are likely to demand clubs buy the 26-year-old, with a fee in excess of £20m required.

The Reds have already bought Kelleher’s replacement in anticipation of his departure. Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili has been snapped up to provide competition for Alisson Becker.

Kelleher is a highly rated keeper

Many regard the Irishman as the best No. 2 in the country. He is particularly adept with the ball at his feet, and his arrival would enable Potter to adopt a more attacking playing style, with more risks being taken by passing out from the back.

There is likely to be competition for Kelleher, though. Chelsea have been mentioned as potential suitors while Nottingham Forest tried to buy him last summer.

West Ham are looking at alternatives

The Sun report that former Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale is also on the Irons’ radar. He would cost a similar amount to Kelleher, but there are question marks about him following a poor season at Southampton.

Other sources have suggested that Burnley’s James Trafford could be targeted. ExWHUEmployee claims that a “serious push” could be made for the England Under 21 international, although his asking price could be problematic.

When Newcastle tried to buy Trafford at the start of the season, Burnley slapped a £30m valuation on him. If they stick to that figure, you would think that West Ham would favour a move for either Kelleher or Ramsdale due to the lower costs involved.
