West Ham are among the clubs interested in signing Roma striker Artem Dovbyk, according to reports in the Italian media.
The Ukrainian international moved to Rome from Girona at the start of last season, scoring 12 league goals in his first year with the Giallorossi.
However, newspaper Leggo (via Romapress.net) claim that Dovbyk’s future is far from certain. He has missed Roma’s first 3 friendlies due to injury and there are suggestions he could be offloaded if a club matches his €35m (£30m) asking price.
Besiktas are the only team to have made formal enquiries so far but the Turkish side are unlikely to match the forward’s valuation.
The Hammers and Leeds are also said to be among the teams monitoring Dovbyk’s situation.
Why are West Ham interested in the striker?
Dovbyk’s reputation was built on his performances for Girona during the 2023/24 campaign. He scored 24 league goals, making him La Liga’s top scorer.
The 28-year-old attracted a lot of interest following that breakout season, with the Irons among those who were linked with securing his services. However, it was Roma who won the race, paying €38m last August.
While Dovbyk has not necessarily performed poorly during his first twelve months in Italy, his performances have fallen below expectations.
Dovbyk is not the only forward under consideration
While there have been murmurings coming out of the club that West Ham won’t sign an out-and-out No.9 this summer, despite the departures of Michail Antonio, Danny Ings and loanee Evan Ferguson, reports in recent days have claimed that the club are closing in on a deal for former Newcastle player Callum Wilson.
The 33-year-old could be signed on a free transfer to support Niclas Fullkrug. It remains to be seen whether his arrival would end the interest in Dovbyk.
