“Now A Name Of Interest” – Journalist Reveals West Ham Are Pondering Swoop For £17M Rated Arsenal Outcast

Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira is now on West Ham’s list of transfer targets.

Journalist Ben Jacobs has confirmed that the Hammers have identified the Portuguese international as a potential option as they look to reinforce the centre of the pitch:

“West Ham have added Fabio Vieira to their list of midfield options. No approach yet to Arsenal, but Vieira now a name of interest. West Ham planning to add multiple midfielders this summer.”

The 25-year-old joined Arsenal for £34m (including add-ons) three years ago, but he spent last season on loan at his former club Porto. He is not believed to be part of Mikel Arteta’s first-team plans.

How much will Vieira cost?

When Serie A side Parma were linked with the player last month, it was reported that Arsenal would be prepared to sanction his departure for a fee in the region of €20m (£17m).

That means the North London club are willing to accept a price which is half of what they originally paid for Vieira. It remains to be seen if that valuation is accurate.

West Ham are looking at other midfielders

As Jacobs points out, Vieira is just one of many midfielders that head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay and head coach Graham Potter are looking at.

There is interest in Chelsea’s Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, but the Blues are only willing to sell the player, rather than loan him out. The Irons were hoping to take him on a temporary basis.

Liverpool’s Tyler Morton, Juventus’s Douglas Luiz and Southampton’s Mateus Fernandes are just some of the other names under consideration, but Vieira is more of an attacking midfielder than these options, so it’s likely he is being targeted as an alternative to Harvey Elliott.

The England international’s price tag is said to be £40m, which would make him considerably more expensive than Vieira.
