‘Phew’ ‘Smartest Bit Of Business All Window’ Fans React After West Ham Make Decision On Signing Man United Flop

West Ham have “turned down the chance” to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana on loan, according to reports.

The Guardian have confirmed claims from elsewhere that the Hammers were offered the Cameroon international. However, it appears the shot-stopper won’t be making the switch to the London Stadium before the transfer window closes.

Needless to say, fans on X are relieved to hear that their club will not be bringing in the error-prone Onana:

Onana’s display vs Grimsby would have influenced the decision

The 29-year-old was in goal for Man United’s shock defeat to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

Onana was at fault for both of the goals conceded, and while he did save a penalty (and score himself) in the shootout, it wasn’t enough to prevent the Red Devils from crashing out of the tournament in the second round.

Such a performance would not have endeared him to potential suitors, including the Irons.

Why are West Ham pursuing another keeper?

£20m was spent on signing a new number one, but Mads Hermansen’s poor start to life with the London club has prompted a search for competition, as has suggestions that Alphonse Areola could leave.

While Onana may not be joining, you can’t rule out another goalkeeper being brought in on loan ahead of the deadline on Monday evening.
