West Ham could revive their interest in former Manchester City midfielder Aleix Garcia, according to reports in the German media.

Fussballdaten.de claim that the Hammers are the most “serious” contender if the Bayer Leverkusen player doesn’t return to Spain.

It is believed that Atletico Madrid are also hoping to sign Garcia, with a bid of around €25m (£22m) being lined up.

Leverkusen are unlikely to stand in the Spaniard’s way if he does decide to leave the Bundesliga side, but they have set an asking price of around €30m (£26m), which is slightly above what Atletico are willing to pay.

West Ham tried to sign the midfielder in 2024

Garcia is said to have snubbed a move to the London Stadium when he joined Leverkusen from Girona at the start of last season.

Despite that apparent rejection, it seems it hasn’t put off the Irons from pursuing the player. He has had a good season in Germany, scoring 5 goals and providing 9 assists in 43 appearances, so he does have plenty to offer.

Garcia would add depth to Nuno’s squad

Of course, any official bid for the 28-year-old is contingent on Nuno Espirito Santo’s side remaining in the Premier League, but reinforcing numbers in the middle of the park will be a key priority this summer.

The club lost three central midfielders during the January transfer window. Guido Rodriguez’s contract was rescinded, and he was allowed to move on a free transfer to Valencia. Lucas Paqueta was sold to Flamengo, while James Ward-Prowse was loaned out to Burnley.

Garcia’s arrival would provide Nuno with another midfield option, but persuading the player is still believed to be a big stumbling block.

Fussballdaten claim that, while Leverkusen are open to a sale, Garcia is happy to remain at the BayArena.
