Former Tottenham player and manager Tim Sherwood says West Ham’s improvement under Nuno Espirito Santo could pose a real threat to Spurs’s top flight status.
The Hammers are still four points behind their London rivals in the Premier League table, but when asked whether his former club are up for a relegation dogfight, Sherwood replied:
“They’re (Tottenham) in a fight now and have they got enough fight in their bellies, the same as them other sides as we’re seeing? I certainly have been watching West Ham recently, who are in the worst position out of everyone because they’re in it, they look like they’ve got some organisation, and they’ve got some real fight in their bellies.”
“The next two games are going to be so crucial for Tottenham… they need to get points and they need to get them quick because if they really get into trouble and West Ham start picking up points and they get right behind them (in the table), I’m not sure they’ve got the players for the fight.”
“I don’t really believe they have because a lot of players come to Tottenham not for a relegation battle, so they’re going to have to find something from somewhere. I believed they would have enough, but I think it’s probably my heart ruling my head there.”
West Ham and Tottenham’s next two fixtures
Nuno’s men have away games against Liverpool and Fulham coming up, so it remains to be seen how many points they can pick up in two rather tricky match-ups. Want a West Ham midlayer training top? Visit the Castore store here.
Spurs actually face Fulham next at Craven Cottage before hosting Crystal Palace at home. On paper, you would expect Igor Tudor’s side to pick up more points, but their recent form has been terrible.
Who will Nottingham Forest be playing?
Of course, the Irons don’t need to leapfrog Tottenham in the table to get out of trouble. Forest’s late defeat to Liverpool at the weekend means that Nuno’s side are now just two points from safety.
The Tricky Trees take on Brighton and Manchester City away from home, so they probably have the toughest schedule of the three teams.
