Manager Who Has Won Promotion From The Championship 3 Times Is ‘Among The Possible Candidates’ To Replace Nuno

Former West Ham player Scott Parker is “among the possible candidates” for the manager’s job if Nuno Espirito Santo leaves at the end of the season, according to reports.

There have been suggestions that the club would look to retain the services of the Portuguese coach even if they are relegated on the final day.

However, Hammers News believe that Santo won’t be sticking around if he can’t guide his team to safety.

A clause in his contract means he won’t be entitled to compensation in the event of relegation, so a parting of ways is seen as inevitable, unless they somehow retain their top-flight status

Parker’s Championship record makes him a top contender

The three-time Hammer of the Year has an excellent track record as a manager in the second tier of English football.

Parker guided Fulham to promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs in 2020. Two years later, he helped Bournemouth gain promotion by finishing 2nd.

The 45-year-old did the exact same thing last season with Burnley, but following the Clarets’ return to the top flight, he was unable to keep them up, and he lost his job at the end of April.

What are the odds of West Ham staying up?

Opta has given just a 13.54% chance of Spurs going down instead of them. Every bookmaker has the Irons as a strong odds-on favourite to finish in the bottom three.

Everything hinges on Nuno’s men beating Leeds and hoping that David Moyes can do them a huge favour by Everton securing a win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Moyes has made it clear he will be doing all he can to help his former team:

“I’d love to keep West Ham in the league if I can. I really do hope West Ham will stay up.”
