West Ham Star Set To Be Sidelined For Key Games As Referee Claims FA Will “Take Retrospective Action”

Former Premier League referee Mike Dean believes West Ham forward Mohammed Kudus could get an extended ban after his sending-off against Tottenham.

The Ghanaian pushed both Micky van de Ven and Pape Sarr to the ground and, speaking on Sky Sports (quotes via Hammers News), Dean said that the FA may “take retrospective action” which could mean he will be suspended for more than three games.

“When you see the footage back, the first one he could have got sent off for – which I’m hoping he has. ”

“Then hopefully the second one, the FA will then take retrospective action so he’ll get done twice in my opinion because he’s hit two different players in the face on two occasions. He should do. I think he’ll get done twice.”

What games will the West Ham star miss?

At this moment in time, Kudus has a three-match ban for violent conduct. That means the 24-year-old will not be available when the Hammers take on Manchester United next weekend.

He will also be missing for the subsequent league fixtures against Nottingham Forest and Everton before the next international break.

How long will Kudus be sidelined for if ‘retrospective action’ is taken?

When Joey Barton was red-carded whilst playing for QPR against Hull City in 2015, he was initially handed a three-game suspension. However, the FA upgraded it to nine after he was retrospectively punished for two other incidents.

If the same logic applies in Kudus’s case, the most likely scenario is that he will be banned for six matches. That means the Ghanaian international could be unavailable until the Wolves game on December 9th, with suspension preventing him from playing versus Newcastle, Arsenal and Leicester. That would be a huge setback for head coach Julen Lopetegui.
