Former West Ham and Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham doesn’t know whether Julen Lopetegui can turn his fortunes around at West Ham,

Speaking to Best Offshore Sportsbooks, Sheringham said that he wasn’t a fan of the Spaniard’s appointment in the first place and, despite being backed in the transfer market, he can’t see where Lopetegui has made improvements:

“Question marks are still out for me on Julen Lopetegui. They’ve gone out and got their man, there were already question marks about their man in the first place. You know, he’s been in the Premier League for a short spell of time and didn’t overly impress at Wolves. Is he the right man? I don’t know.”

“They’ve put all their eggs in one basket. They’ve chased him and given him a lot of money to spend. Things haven’t changed on a major scale for West Ham fans to go, ‘No, stick with him, he’s our man.’ They’re still not playing great football; they’re playing cautious football with too many defensive midfield players in midfield and not really exciting the crowd. Even though they’ve got a few exciting players in their team, they’ve not been great. So, question marks out, big time.”

Lopetegui has some big games coming up

West Ham play Newcastle on Monday night before hosting Arsenal at the London Stadium next weekend. You do feel that the manager needs a good result in, at least, one of those matches to keep his job.

There was already huge pressure on Lopetegui even before the international break, with the 0-0 draw at home to Everton failing to convince fans, so something needs to change.

The West Ham boss is currently favourite to be sacked

The bookmakers believe Lopetegui is the likeliest Premier League manager to lose his position, with his odds now as short as 11/8.

Southampton’s Russell Martin and Wolves’ Gary O’Neil are the second and third favourites to leave their respective posts.
