Harry Redknapp Outlines The 2 Positions That West Ham Need To Strengthen As He Delivers Relegation Verdict

Ex-West Ham manager Harry Redknapp does not think the Hammers will be relegated this season.

The Hammers are currently sitting second from bottom of the Premier League, with 4 points after 6 games, having already replaced Graham Potter with Nuno Espirito Santo.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Redknapp said that, while the current squad is good enough to stay in the top flight, he believes two positions need to be strengthened:

“They’ll be OK this season. I don’t see them going down. The new left-back (El Hadji Malick Diouf) looks a good lad, and they have Jarrod Bowen, who is outstanding. But they need a striker and look weak at the back. It’s about recruitment.”

Redknapp is not a fan of Fullkrug

Based on the fact that the former Hammers boss wants a new striker, it’s clear that he doesn’t fancy the current No.9, Niclas Fullkrug.

The German international has struggled to stay fit since his move from Borussia Dortmund last year, and his record of 0 goals and 0 assists in 6 appearances this season tells you all you need to know.

Will West Ham have money to spend in January?

Considering the club’s recent struggles to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, some wheeling and dealing may be necessary to improve the squad when the transfer window reopens.

Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo is not keen on James Ward-Prowse or Jean-Clair Todibo, as both were left out of the matchday squad entirely for the 1-1 draw against Everton on Monday night.

Todibo would probably raise a lot more funds than Ward-Prowse but there is a good chance that neither player will still be at the London Stadium after January. The rest of the squad will also have to do more to impress Nuno over the next few months and they could run the risk of being sold as well. They will want to build on the performance versus Everton when they take on Arsenal this weekend.
