West Ham Could Find Out ‘Within Next 24 Hours’ If They Have Secured Lopetegui’s Replacement

West Ham are expected to discover “within 24 hours” whether Graham Potter will agree to become their next manager, according to reports.

It is believed that discussions began with the former Chelsea boss earlier this week but negotiations have been complicated by the involvement of Everton.

Sky Sports claim that “both clubs” are considering appointing Potter, with the 49-year-old set to decide imminently which team he will join.

He is in a strong position to dictate terms due to the fact that the two sides have him high up their list of targets.

Even so, a decision is not expected to take long, and Hammers fans should find out before the FA Cup clash against Aston Villa on Friday whether Potter will replace Julen Lopetegui.

Why have things got to this point with Lopetegui?

Despite being in the job for six months, performances and results have not improved under the former Wolves head coach.

The 5-0 home defeat to Liverpool was followed by a 4-1 loss to Manchester City, with the board beginning to lose patience after giving Lopetegui the benefit of the doubt up until very recently.

The Spaniard’s repeated clashes with players have not helped matters either, having fallen out with Mohammed Kudus at half-time against Brentford, before the same thing happened with Jean-Clair Todibo versus Arsenal.

Do West Ham have a contingency plan if they don’t land Potter?

Some reports suggest that the Irons have made contact with former Nice and Paris Saint-Germain head coach Christopher Galtier.

Other names, such as Middlesbrough’s Michael Carrick and ex-Juventus boss Max Allegri, have also been mentioned but it is thought that those two managers are more likely to take over at the end of the season.

Potter is seen as the best choice as he is willing to take the job midway through the campaign, having been out of work since he left Chelsea back in April 2023.
