Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville is expecting a stalemate when West Ham face Manchester United at the London Stadium this weekend.
Speaking with former teammate Paul Scholes on the ‘Stick to Football’ podcast, Neville said he was going for a draw:
“Scholesy, I’m unsure. 1-1? [We’ll go] 2-2.”
Former Arsenal and West Ham striker Ian Wright, who was also on the podcast, disagreed with Neville, suggesting that the away side may come out on top:
“I’d have gone 3-2 United I love the way Hojlund finished that chance [against Brentford]. He’s in the mode. I can see him getting two goals here.”
Roy Keane concurred with Wright that United would win but he opted for a 2-1 victory, which was a scoreline that Wright ultimately settled on too.
West Ham’s home record has been poor
It has been a difficult start to the season for the Hammers at the London Stadium. They have picked up just one win from four on their own turf, conceding 9 goals.
The 4-1 victory against Ipswich Town just before the international break did help improve the mood around the club but the chastening defeat to Tottenham last week has sent things spiralling once again. Manager Julen Lopetegui really needs the three points on Sunday to get the supporters back on his side.
West Ham team news ahead of the Manchester United fixture
The Irons will be without a key player for the clash against the Red Devils. Mohammed Kudus is currently serving a three-match ban after being sent off versus Spurs.
That suspension could be increased if retrospective action is taken by the FA for violent conduct, relating to incidents with Micky van de Ven and Pape Sarr.
Niclas Fullkrug is the only other absentee. The German international is still recovering from Achilles tendinitis which has kept him on the sidelines for over a month.
