West Ham Star Sends Pointed Message To Potter After Breaking Scoring Duck On International Duty

West Ham loanee Evan Ferguson says he is “aiming to continue his form” he showed with the Republic of Ireland when he returns to club duty later this week.

The 20-year-old scored in the Nations League playoff versus Bulgaria on Monday night and speaking after the 2-1 win, Ferguson said:

“I haven’t played as much football as I’d have liked this season, for a variety of reasons, but I’ll be aiming to continue this form after the international break and have a strong end to the season.”

It was only Ferguson’s third goal of the season for club and country. The last time he found the back of the net was at international level against Finland back in November.

The Hammers have used Ferguson sparingly since signing him

Head coach Graham Potter has been reluctant to start the Irishman since he joined on loan from Brighton during the January transfer window.

The forward has made 5 appearances for West Ham so far; all of which have come from the bench. Potter has said that he has been easing Ferguson back into things due to his injury history but many felt he would be given a more prominent role by the Irons boss.

After all, Potter did hand the player his senior debut when they worked together on the South Coast and the lack of minutes has been puzzling.

Will Ferguson start for West Ham against Wolves?

The striker’s remarks after scoring on Monday evening suggests that he is chomping at the bit to get more game time. There is no doubt that the Hammers could do with more firepower.

However, Potter has preferred to use captain Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus as a front two recently, which means there is no need for an out-and-out No.9. The team’s lack of goals could, however, force the manager into a rethink and that could hand Ferguson an opportunity to shine.
