West Ham winger Edvin Austbo made a big impression on his second appearance for the club against Derby County at the weekend.
The Norwegian Under-21 international scored and provided an assist during his 15-minute cameo, helping the Hammers secure a 3-0 win over the Rams.
Supporters on X have been impressed by what they have seen of Austbo so far, although some are cautious about making a judgement too soon on the player:
Proper player.

I like what I see but too early to judge— Geoffrey Longhurst (@WHU1954) September 5, 2026
West Ham believe they have found a potential star
Austbo was the Irons’ second most expensive purchase of the summer transfer window. His eventual fee could rise to £18m.
Considering the winger has never played outside of Norway, spending such a sum is a considerable gamble, but the recruitment team, led by Nils Koppen, clearly feel they have found a gem.
The early signs are very promising. Austbo possesses plenty of pace, and that speed will undoubtedly give him the edge over the vast majority of fullbacks he faces in the Championship over the coming months.
Will Nuno start Austbo?
The Championship is pretty relentless, and with the Hammers facing Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday night, it would not be a surprise if the 21-year-old is named in the starting eleven for the first time.
Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo will need to use his whole squad to cope with the sheer number of fixtures, so you would expect Austbo and fellow summer signing Manor Solomon to share minutes on the left wing.
With the Israeli having failed to score or provide an assist since the opening-day draw against Burnley last month, it looks like he could have a fight on his hands if he wants to remain a regular starter ahead of Austbo.
