West Ham Star Named Alongside Arsenal And Chelsea Players In The BBC’s Premier League Team Of The Week

West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez has been selected in the BBC’s Team of the Week for his performance against Manchester United at the weekend.

Ex-Watford striker Troy Deeney named the XI and he praised the Mexican international for being combative in the middle of the park.

Alvarez started the 2-1 win at the London Stadium, and he clearly felt he had a point to prove, considering he had been left out of the starting lineup for several games.

Before Sunday’s fixture, the 27-year-old was last named in the first eleven for the 5-1 defeat to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup a month ago.

Alvarez was sent off in that match and he has had to bide his time to get back into the side.

West Ham rode their luck against Man United

Alvarez, like the rest of his teammates, was pretty poor in the first half at the London Stadium, with their opponents missing three or four gilt-edged opportunities to go ahead.

As it was, the Hammers somehow went in at the break level, giving head coach Julen Lopetegui the chance to change things. Alvarez helped shore things up after halftime and it gave them the platform to go on and win the match.

Who else made it into the BBC’s Premier League Team of the Week?

Deeney named Dean Henderson in goal as Crystal Palace kept a clean sheet in their 1-0 win over Tottenham. His teammate Marc Guehi joins him in a three-man defence which also includes Manchester City’s Ruben Dias and Fulham’s Issa Diop.

Arsenal’s Thomas Partey and Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri were chosen as wingbacks, with Alvarez joined in midfield by Nottingham Forest’s Ryan Yates and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.

Up front, Deeney went with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and Forest’s Chris Wood, who both scored braces at the weekend.
