West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez took to social media to apologise after being sent off during the 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the weekend.
The Mexican international was shown two yellow cards in the first half at the City Ground and, in a statement, Alvarez said he would learn from his mistakes:
“Tough day for me, I apologize to my teammates and fans. Falling, learning and getting up”.
Alvarez’s red card made life very tough for the Hammers and supporters on X were not in a forgiving mood:
He doesn't learn

Both cards totally unnecessary- covering players there so cost us the game – we’re struggling with 11 so no chance with 10

We had a longer apology with Souček because he missed the game due to illness than this.

Discipline has become a problem for the West Ham star
It is not the first time that Alvarez has been sent for an early bath this season, having also picked up two bookable offences during the heavy defeat to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup back in September.
Head coach Julen Lopetegui left him on the bench after his ban, only recalling him for the 2-1 win over Manchester United.
Who will replace Alvarez against Everton?
The 27-year-old will serve his one-match ban this weekend, and it’s likely that Tomas Soucek will replace him.
After being absent from the matchday squad for the Forest fixture due to illness, the Czech international should be available for Saturday’s clash against the Toffees at the London Stadium.
