West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen has praised Adama Traore for his performance against Leeds United at the weekend.
It was only the Spaniard’s third start since moving from Fulham in January, and he provided the assist for Axel Disasi’s dramatic late equaliser.
Traore has not had many great moments in his brief Hammers career so far, but Bowen was keen to highlight the winger’s contribution, despite the team eventually losing to Leeds on penalties:
“I thought Adama [Traore] was brilliant from start to finish today.”
Traore is playing for his West Ham future
The 30-year-old made the switch to the London Stadium for £2m near the end of the January transfer window. The Irons have paid £1m up front, with another £1m due in performance-related add-ons.
However, Traore was only given a six-month contract, and he is currently set to leave when his current deal expires at the end of June.
There is no option to extend for a further season, so if the forward wants to stay, he needs to put in more displays like the one he did on Sunday.
Traore’s game time will hinge on Summerville’s fitness
There was optimism that Crysencio Summerville would make his comeback from a calf injury after the international break, but the Dutchman was not included in the matchday squad for the Leeds game.
The winger is said to be back in training, but despite having a late fitness test, it appears he wasn’t ready to play at the weekend.
It means Traore may have a chance of starting in successive games when West Ham take on his former team, Wolves, on Friday night. Summerville may be back in contention by then, but he may only be fit enough for a place on the bench.
