Ex-Young Boys head coach Raphael Wicky is among the names under consideration to replace Graham Potter in the West Ham dugout, according to reports.

Journalist Graeme Bailey told Hammers News that the 48-year-old has been “put forward” as a candidate for the manager’s job, along with Edin Terzic, Scott Parker, Nuno Espirito Santo and several others.

Wicky has no experience of coaching in a top European league, having started his managerial career at FC Basel, before going on to coach the United States’ Under 17s, MLS side Chicago Fire and Young Boys.

During his time at the latter, he won the Swiss Super League title and the Swiss Cup in 2023, but he was sacked midway through the 2023/24 campaign after a string of poor results.

Wicky had an impressive playing career

Before becoming a manager, he had been a player at the highest level, having had spells in Germany with Werder Bremen and Hamburg, as well as in Spain with Atletico Madrid.

Between 1996 and 2008, Wicky was also capped 75 times by Switzerland, playing at three major tournaments – Euro 96, Euro 2004 and the World Cup in 2006.

Who is the bookies’ favourite to replace Potter at West Ham?

Nuno remains odds-on to take the job. It is believed that vice-chair Karen Brady has had a face-to-face meeting with the former Nottingham Forest boss and his representatives over the past week or so.

Slaven Bilic is regarded as second favourite, although sources close to the club have played down the chances of the Croatian returning to the London Stadium for a second spell in charge.

Former Wolves head coach Gary O’Neil, ex-Everton manager Sean Dyche and Michael Carrick (who left Middlesbrough in the summer) make up the rest of the top five. No decision is expected to be imminent with Potter’s replacement set to take the hot seat during the next international break.
