Nuno Espirito Santo won’t be the next West Ham manager unless he is offered a “long-term deal”, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Fans are wondering why it is taking so long to dispense with the services of Graham Potter, despite the 50-year-old being a dead man walking. However, Jacobs has told GiveMeSport that Nuno is not willing to sign a contract that would only run until the end of the season:

“Nuno wants a long-term deal. But, even if West Ham offer him that, there is a feeling from those close to him that other jobs will also materialise, so he won’t necessarily rush back into the game.

Jacobs has also revealed that Nuno’s salary demands could also force the Hammers to look elsewhere for Potter’s replacement:

“He is also the most expensive of the candidates that West Ham have looked at because of the overall package, so there are some concerns about that.”

West Ham are penny-pinching

While the board are happy to splash out tens of millions of pounds on signing players, it seems they have very tight purse strings when it comes to managers.

There are already consigning themselves to managerial candidates who are out of work, as they don’t want to pay compensation to other clubs.

It also appears they are reluctant to give a prospective new coach a long-term contract due to fears of having to pay them off if things don’t work out.

Potter is set to take charge for 2 more games

It doesn’t look like West Ham are close to finding a new manager at this stage, and in addition to being in the dugout for the Everton match on Monday, Potter will likely still be present for the Arsenal fixture at the start of next month.

A final decision on his future is not expected to be taken until the next international break, when it is hoped that his successor has already been lined up.
