West Ham have already “sounded out” their former assistant manager Edin Terzic as a potential replacement for Julen Lopetegui, according to talkSPORT.
The radio station claims that the German, who worked alongside Slaven Bilic at the London Stadium between 2015 and 2017, will be a frontrunner if the club decide to change manager over the coming weeks.
Terzic has had some success as a head coach, having guided Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final last season, as well as having secured 2nd and 5th place finishes in the Bundesliga.
TalkSPORT report that technical director Tim Steidten is a “big admirer” of the 42-year-old, which means he is in with a good chance of landing the role at the Hammers.
Terzic is not the only manager under consideration by West Ham
Ex-Benfica head coach Roger Schmidt, current Stuttgart boss Sebastian Hoeness and former Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand are also believed to be on the club’s shortlist.
Former Liverpool coach (and current Celtic boss) Brendan Rodgers, as well as ex-Chelsea managers Graham Potter and Jose Mourinho, have been tipped as candidates but none of these names have reportedly been approached at this stage.
Lopetegui has two games to save his job
Some media outlets have suggested that the Hammers could wield the axe on their current manager if he doesn’t get results against Newcastle and Arsenal.
Both are tough fixtures. Lopetegui’s men head to St James’ Park on Monday evening before they host the Gunners at home the following Saturday.
While results are important, the standard of the performances could also be key. If West Ham suffer heavy defeats in both matches, the club’s board may have no choice but to change the man in the dugout.
