“Listen, I Said I’d Be Here” – Former Liverpool Manager Provides New Update On His Future Amid West Ham Links

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers says he intends to see out his three-year contract at his current club following rumours about interest from West Ham.

The former Liverpool manager returned to Glasgow at the start of last season to begin his second spell in charge of Celtic. He wasn’t welcomed back by fans after his controversial exit to Leicester during his first stint. However, Rodgers has won over the fanbase due to the club’s form and the 51-year-old insists he won’t leave this time unless he gets sacked:

“What did I say on my first day here? Three years unless I get bumped early! Listen, I said I’d be here for three years. At the end of three years, I’ll have done nearly six years as a Celtic manager which is a long time for a Celtic manager. I haven’t really thought about it.”

“For near on a year, there were probably more people that wanted me out than in so I’m not going to be talking about new contracts now! I just need to continue to work well, do my very best for the club and I’m pretty sure at some point next season we can see how we’re going and take it from there.”

Rodgers’ contract with Celtic expires in 2026 so, unless he does go back on his word, the likelihood of the Northern Irishman replacing Julen Lopetegui at the London Stadium is low.

Who are the favourites to become the next West Ham manager?

Although Rodgers’ name has been floated about by certain sources, the club are believed to be considering other options if they do decide to axe Lopetegui.

Ex-Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic, former Benfica head coach Roger Schmidt, Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeness, ex-Chelsea coach Graham Potter and, more recently, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, have been suggested as the leading candidates.

Lopetegui’s job is on the line

It is believed that the current Hammers head coach has just two games to save himself. Improved performances and results are needed against Newcastle and Arsenal or there could be a change in the dugout.

Based on Rodgers’ remarks, though, he won’t be in the frame if the job does become available over the coming days.
