TalkSPORT presenter Alan Brazil says he has heard rumours that suggest Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers could be appointed West Ham manager.

Brazil, who is a Celtic fan, expressed dismay at the possibility that the former Liverpool head coach may be heading to the London Stadium, although he did cast some doubt on the reliability of the source:

“Someone sent me a text last night saying Brendan [Rodgers] for West Ham… What? Brendan Rodgers? He can’t leave, not with how Celtic are playing… I don’t know if it’s just my mate winding me up because he is a Celtic fan or he’s heard something.”

Rodgers has been linked with the Hammers on several occasions in the past so it wouldn’t be a complete surprise if the Northern Irishman was being considered as a replacement for Julen Lopetegui.

Who else has been linked with the West Ham job?

Several candidates have been mentioned in recent weeks, including ex-Brighton and Chelsea manager Graham Potter, former Denmark head coach Kasper Hjulmand, Stuttgart boss Sebastian Hoeness and ex-Benfica manager Roger Schmidt.

There have also been some speculative links with Fenerbahce’s Jose Mourinho, although many doubt the credibility of those claims.

Is Lopetegui close to being sacked?

The latest reports suggest that the 58-year-old needs results in his next two matches to keep his job and, considering the opponents that the Irons are facing, that won’t be easy.

West Ham take on Newcastle at St James’ Park on Monday night. The Magpies beat Arsenal in their last home fixture. Coincidentally, Lopetegui’s men then host the Gunners at home in the next game on Saturday week.

It is, therefore, a massive 7 days for the Spaniard. If he doesn’t pick up points, it looks like the club are already lining up potential replacements.
