Spurs And United Fixtures Targeted As West Ham Star Steps Up Comeback

West Ham striker Niclas Fullkrug is unlikely to start a game before the next international break, according to GiveMeSport.

Manager Julen Lopetegui has hinted that the German international was close to returning before the last two Hammers matches but there are specific complications with his injury.

Fullkrug has been struggling with Achilles tendonitis. He initially felt discomfort whilst playing for his country and he hasn’t played in West Ham’s last three games as a result.

While the 31-year-old could still make the bench prior to the October international fixtures, he may only be reintroduced into the starting lineup later next month.

Who could Fullkrug start against?

The fixtures immediately after the international break are Tottenham and Manchester United; two important games.

Fullkrug’s finishing ability could prove vital in either match so it would be a big boost for the Irons if he is available to play.

West Ham are struggling in front of goal

Lopetegui’s side are finding things tough at both ends of the pitch at the moment. The fact that they have only scored 7 goals in 7 matches is just as much of a concern as their poor defensive record.

While Jarrod Bowen has hit the back of the net twice (and Danny Ings once), the likes of Mohammed Kudus, Michail Antonio and Crysencio Summerville have all failed to find the target.

If that trend continues, having someone like Fullkrug back available would be welcomed. The striker certainly knows where the goal is based on his record for Borussia Dortmund and Germany.

From the sound of things, though, it doesn’t look like he will play much of a part against Brentford on Saturday or Ipswich Town next week. Fans will be hoping the team can cope without him for the time being.
