West Ham attacking midfielder Lucas Paqueta is set to be sidelined for up to four weeks due to an ankle injury, according to reports.
The Brazilian international underwent a scan earlier this week to determine the seriousness of the issue he picked up in training.
It appears that Paqueta will be unavailable until after the next international break with The Guardian‘s Jacob Steinberg confirming the length of the injury layoff.
The 27-year-old’s absence is another blow for head coach Graham Potter, who has had to deal with several injury setbacks during his short time in charge of the Hammers.
Paqueta will be sidelined for 4 games
The midfielder has been ruled out of contention for the London derby against Arsenal this weekend. He is also expected to be absent for the fixtures versus Leicester, Newcastle and Everton.
If Paqueta’s recovery goes to plan, he should return to action in time to face Wolves at Molineux on April 1st.
West Ham already have 4 other players on the treatment table
As mentioned, Potter has had to contend with multiple fitness issues since his arrival at the London Stadium. Two players sustained hamstring injuries during his first game in charge against Aston Villa in the FA Cup.
Like Paqueta, neither Crysencio Summerville nor Niclas Fullkrug are likely to be back before April, with the latter targeting a return in the final six weeks of the campaign.
Michail Antonio is currently out for an indefinite period as he continues his rehabilitation from a broken leg. Vladimir Coufal is the player likeliest to make his comeback the soonest. The Czech international has a minor hamstring strain that stopped him from playing against Brentford last weekend but he is not expected to be on the sidelines for long.
