West Ham defender Konstantinos Mavropanos will not feature in Greece’s friendly against Hungary on Tuesday evening.
The 28-year-old suffered a head injury during the 1-0 defeat to Paraguay last week, and he was forced off with five minutes left on the clock.
Sportal are now reporting that Mavropanos’s fitness will not be risked for the Hungary fixture:
“The medical staff prioritised his full recovery, with the international stopper remaining out of the options for precautionary reasons.”
Will Mavropanos face Leeds this weekend?
The Greek international has been a key pillar of the Hammers’ revival over the past couple of months, having started all but one fixture since the 2-1 away win against Tottenham in mid-January.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side take on Leeds United in the quarter-final of the FA Cup on Sunday evening.
While it is an important game, Mavropanos also has a massive role to play if the Irons are to save themselves from relegation. If there are any concerns about his fitness, it may be best for the centre-back to stay at home and rest up ahead of the next Premier League against Wolves the following Friday.
Other West Ham injury news
In addition to Mavropanos, Nuno is sweating on the fitness of Crysencio Summerville. The Dutchman has not played since the last round of the FA Cup against Brentford due to a calf issue.
Summerville was forced to miss out on international duty, where he could have picked up his first cap for the Netherlands, in order to continue his recovery.
Nuno has said that the winger is improving “day by day”, but the West Ham boss refused to provide a timeline for when he could return to the matchday squad.
Along with Mavropanos and Summerville, Lukasz Fabianski is also still on the treatment table with a back injury that has kept him sidelined since September.
