West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo has revealed that Crysencio Summerville’s calf injury is “improving”.
The Dutchman has not played since the win over Brentford in the 5th round of the FA Cup earlier this month, and asked for an update on the winger’s fitness, Nuno said:
“We are assessing day by day. He is improving, but it is too soon to tell the exact date he will return. Hopefully, he returns and gives us a hand.”
Summerville was expected to be called up for the Netherlands squad for their friendlies against Norway and Ecuador this week.
However, the forward’s injury has prevented him from receiving what would have been his first senior cap for his country.
When could Summerville return to action?
Despite Nuno’s positive remarks, it must be emphasised that he did not provide a set date for his comeback.
It is hoped that the international break will give Summerville enough time to recover, with the Irons’ next match being the FA Cup quarter-final tie against the player’s former team, Leeds.
Otherwise, if he can’t make that match, the club will be keen to make sure he is available for the league fixture versus Wolves on April 10th. Nuno’s men also face Crystal Palace and Everton before the end of next month.
Other West Ham injury news
Jean-Clair Todibo has picked up his own calf problem. The French defender was forced to withdraw from the starting lineup for the 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa at the weekend, with Freddie Potts taking his place.
It is not known how long Todibo will be on the treatment table for, but the break for international games will give him more time to recover.
Lukasz Fabianski is the only other member of the first-team squad on the sidelines. The 40-year-old has been ruled out with a back problem since September.
