West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui has revealed that Emerson Palmieri will undergo an assessment to discover the extent of the injury he sustained against Fulham at the weekend.
Speaking in his post-match interview about the defender’s fitness, Lopetegui said that Emerson was in a lot of pain:
“He suffered one big knock. He has pain. Let’s see. We’ll know more tomorrow.”
Emerson was replaced just before the hour mark at Craven Cottage, with Vladimir Coufal coming on to take his place.
Expected Return Date – Unknown
Aaron Cresswell returned to the matchday squad for the draw against the Cottagers on Saturday.
The left-back picked up a hamstring injury during the warm-up of the Carabao Cup second-round tie against Bournemouth last month, before missing the defeat to Manchester City. He was an unused substitute at the weekend.
Expected Return Date – Available to face Chelsea (h) – Saturday 21st September
Niclas Fullkrug has been carrying an injury in recent weeks. The German international is suffering with Achilles tendonitis and he had to pull out of his country’s second Nations League game against the Netherlands last week.
It was initially estimated that the striker would be sidelined for 2 to 3 weeks, with a return at the beginning of October having been suggested.
However, at his pre-match press conference last Thursday, Lopetegui hinted that Fullkrug could even play against Fulham. The 31-year-old wasn’t ultimately included in the squad for the match.
Whether he will be fit to face Chelsea on Saturday, it is up for debate. Tendonitis is something that needs time to settle down so, if he does return too quickly, he would risk aggravating the issue and being out for a longer period of time,
Expected Return Date – Liverpool (a) – Carabao Cup – Wednesday 25th September
