‘Close To Being Agreed With Arsenal’ – Report Reveals West Ham Could Have Signed Alternative To Summerville

Wwst Ham had to decide between signing Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson and Leeds’ Crysencio Summerville, according to ExWHWUEmployee.

Writing on the West Ham Way Patreon (quotes via the website), Ex claimed that the Hammers had been in talks to snap up Nelson before ultimately concluding that Summerville was the better option:

“The club were very torn between Summerville and Nelson. A loan and then option to buy was close to being agreed with Arsenal but overall the two deals worked out the same value roughly after the loan and after much deliberation, Summerville was given the nod.”

Summerville is expected to be confirmed as a new West Ham player imminently, with the London club set to pay a fee in the region of £25m for the Dutchman.

A comparison of Nelson and Summerville’s form last season

If you look at the stats, it’s not hard to see why the Irons opted to recruit the Leeds winger. He racked up 21 goals and provided 10 assists during the 2023/24 campaign, being awarded the Championship Player of the Season in the process.

In contrast, Nelson scored just once and created just three goals in 24 appearances, although it must be said that he only started 5 times in all competitions.

Are West Ham looking to recruit any other players?

It looks like it could be a busy week for the Hammers, with up to FOUR new signings set to arrive at the London Stadium. In addition to Summerville, deals for Borussia Dortmund’s Niclas Fullkrug and free agent Guido Rodriguez are all but wrapped up.

At the time of writing, there is still less certainty about an agreement for Manchester United fullback Aaron Wan-Bissaka. There is thought to be a sizeable gap in valuation between the two clubs that could stop a transfer from going ahead.
