West Ham are interested in signing Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling, according to TBRFootball.
The website reports that the England international will be made available for transfer this summer, and the Hammers are “keeping tabs” on his situation.
Sterling has struggled since moving to Stamford Bridge from Manchester City for £47.5m two years ago, and the Blues are looking to get his £325,000 a week salary off their books.
TBRFootball claim that they may even be willing to “massively subsidise” his wages in order to facilitate a transfer away from the club.
West Ham are not the only team interested in Sterling
It is believed that Crystal Palace would also be keen on signing the England international and there are some suggestions that he could be offered as part of a swap deal for Michael Olise.
Both Chelsea and Manchester United are competing for the Frenchman’s signature, who has a £60m release clause in his contract.
It’s doubtful whether Sterling would accept a transfer to Selhurst Park, though, with the player said to be in no rush to leave the Blues.
Reinforcements for the left flank are needed
With Said Benrahma reportedly set to seal a permanent switch to Lyon and Pablo Fornals having moved to Real Betis in January, the Irons don’t have that many options for the left wing.
The likes of Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus have been deployed there but they are more comfortable in other positions. Even new signing Luis Guilherme prefers the right flank.
With that being the case, signing a player like Sterling can’t be ruled out. Of course, the 29-year-old would have to take a significant wage cut if he were to seal a move to the London Stadium but Chelsea are seemingly happy to help in that regard. It could be one to keep an eye on.
