West Ham are weighing up an approach for Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush when the transfer window reopens in January, according to FootballTransfers reporter Jacque Talbot.
The journalist says the Hammers are “eyeing a potential move” for the Egyptian international, who has had an exceptionally strong start to the season for Frankfurt.
Marmoush has hit the back of the net 6 times in just 5 league appearances, having also contributed 3 assists.
The 25-year-old has often been labelled the “next Mo Salah” by the media, due to the position he plays and the fact that he is the same nationality as the Liverpool star.
Whether Marmoush can reach the same heights as his fellow countryman, though, it is up for debate, but his form in recent weeks has been very impressive.
Frankfurt rejected an offer from another Premier League club this summer
Talbot reports that Nottingham Forest did table a €30m (£25m) bid for Marmoush during the last transfer window, only for the proposal to be rejected.
Even so, he claims that the player is still “open” to joining a Premier League team, leaving the door ajar for the Irons to make their move.
Marmoush would add more firepower to West Ham’s frontline
Despite starting 5 of the first 6 league games this campaign, Michail Antonio has still not scored. Niclas Fullkrug’s injury means that the summer signing has not played as many minutes as he would have liked.
Consequently, Danny Ings is the club’s highest-scoring striker at the moment, having scored the last-gasp equaliser against Fulham earlier this month.
If things don’t improve between now and the New Year, West Ham may need to go into the market for another No.9 and it seems Marmoush is one of the options under consideration.
