Liverpool have not explored a move to sign West Ham forward Mohammed Kudus, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
There have been suggestions that the Reds may consider tabling an offer for the Ghanaian international if they do lose Mo Salah at the end of the season. Writing in his Daily Briefing column, Romano said such a transfer is not currently under consideration:
“Liverpool are not in discussions or planning any move yet, it’s just a moment where they explore the market and still talk to Salah about the contract. So nothing really concrete on Kudus now, it’s not an October/November topic for sure.”
Liverpool, along with Manchester United, were mentioned as potential suitors for Kudus back in June, but neither club made a bid at the time.
West Ham don’t have much say over the player’s future
The existence of a release clause in Kudus‘s contract means there isn’t a lot that the Hammers can do if a club pays the requisite fee.
The 24-year-old could have left during the summer transfer window for £85m and that clause will be reactivated at the end of the season. Of course, a lot hinges on whether a team like Liverpool are willing to pay that much for him.
Kudus has struggled to produce his best form so far this campaign
The Ghanaian’s goal against Ipswich Town last weekend was his first of the season. It hasn’t been a great start for the player who looked so good during his first 12 months at the London Stadium.
Some fans believe that Julen Lopetegui’s decision to play him on the left flank hasn’t helped matters. The pair also had a small falling out at halftime versus Brentford last month which added fuel to the fire about a potential transfer.
For now, though, Kudus simply needs to focus on his form for the Hammers. If he starts to perform well, he may attract more interest from clubs like Liverpool but that is an issue that can be dealt with when the time comes.
