West Ham are one of several clubs “in the mix” to buy Burnley captain Josh Brownhill, according to TBRFootball.

The 28-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and the midfielder could well be available for a knockdown price during the January transfer window.

Brownhill has been linked with a move to the London Stadium on several occasions over the past few years, and it appears that the Hammers have retained an interest despite a change in manager.

Previous head coach David Moyes was said to have originally wanted Brownhill prior to him joining Burnley from Bristol City at the start of 2020.

West Ham will have plenty of competition for the player

TBR claim that there are at least two other Premier League teams keen on snapping up Brownhill. Both Fulham and Brighton are thought to be weighing up bids.

Championship side Leeds, Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic as well as three Serie A sides (Torino, Fiorentina and Lazio) have also been credited with an interest.

However, it is believed that a majority of these foreign teams are hoping to tie down Brownhill to a pre-contract agreement ahead of a free transfer next summer.

Midfield options need to be reinforced

One of the biggest problems that manager Julen Lopetegui has had at the start of this season is the club’s lack of steel in the middle of the park.

Guido Rodriguez and Edson Alvarez, in particular, have not provided the balance that the Irons boss was hoping for so Brownhill could be brought in to address that.

Considering West Ham are not exactly brimming with cash at the moment, the fact that the player will soon be out of contract means he would be a realistic target financially.
