The agent of West Ham target Jonathan David is “talking with a number of Premier League clubs” ahead of a potential free transfer next year, according to TBR.
As the Canadian international’s current deal with Lille is set to expire at the end of June, he can sign a pre-contract agreement with another team on January 1st.
David was linked with a transfer to West Ham during the summer transfer window and it is believed the club have asked the player’s representatives to be kept informed about his situation.
TBR report that the Hammers will be joined by the likes of Newcastle, Arsenal, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Brighton in pursuing the striker’s signature.
David does have interest from other countries
The Canadian’s availability on a free has unsurprisingly attracted the attention of teams in other leagues, with clubs in Germany, France and Italy also keeping an eye on him.
However, David has expressed a preference for playing in England if the opportunity arises, and that should help reduce the competition that West Ham will face to secure his services.
The West Ham target has received praise from those he’s worked with
David is very highly rated by the managers he has played under. Former Canada head coach John Herdman spoke last year about the qualities that the forward brings to the table:
“For him, he’s a quiet player around the environment and a quiet presence and has this killer instinct. Tactically very organised and very away, but with that instinct to be able to ghost into a penalty area and do what he does best and that is score.”
“To have a player of that quality who can take that moment, it really makes a difference. One who does the work excites me and I know the players really respect that.”
It remains to be seen if the Irons can win the race to sign him but it would be a coup if they can tie him down to a contract.
