Botofogo won’t respond to any proposal from West Ham for Igor Jesus unless it is made directly by the club, according to Globo Esporte.
The Brazilian sports news outlet has revealed that an “intermediary” working on behalf of the Hammers has signalled that the London club are prepared to “offer” £30m for the striker.
However, Botofogo, who are part of the Eagle Group owned by American businessman John Textor, have made it clear that they want a direct bid before starting negotiations.
Globo Esporte claims that Jesus has already been linked with another Premier League club. Textor was said to be keen on bringing him to Everton if had won the battle to buy the Toffees but another American, Roma owner Dan Friedkin, ultimately purchased the team.
More than one source has linked Jesus with a move to West Ham
English tabloid The Sun reported on Saturday that the Brazilian international was a transfer target for Irons technical director Tim Steidten.
However, it was thought that Jesus could be included in a straight swap deal, with Lucas Paqueta moving in the other direction. The midfielder was keen on leaving the London Stadium for Flamengo in the summer so it is likely that an exchange of some kind would be considered.
The Hammers need a striker
A new No.9 will be a top priority for the January transfer window, especially with Niclas Fullkrug staying on the sidelines with a troublesome Achilles injury. The German international has not played since the defeat to Manchester City at the end of August and no timeframe has been given for his return to action.
Jesus is by no means a prolific forward, having scored 8 goals in 22 matches this season, so it remains to be seen whether West Ham will press ahead with the move or consider other options.
