West Ham are “ready” to make an approach for out-of-favour AC Milan centre-back Fikayo Tomori, according to reports in the Italian media.

The ex-Chelsea player has lost his place in the Serie A side’s starting lineup and MilanLive.it claim that a sale during the January transfer window is a genuine possibility.

However, the Rossoneri are currently holding out for around €30m (£25m), which is not a fee the Hammers are likely to pay.

It is believed that the London club are right up against it in terms of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules so any attempt to sign Tomori on a permanent basis would have to be financed by sales.

West Ham are not the only Premier League club interested in the defender

Milan Live claim that both Newcastle and Aston Villa are weighing up their own offers for Tomori ahead of next month.

The Magpies failed to land Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace in the summer, and the Milan centre-back would be available for a much lower price than his fellow England international.

Villa, meanwhile, could be looking for an upgrade on Tyrone Mings, who has struggled to get game time since his return from a serious knee injury.

Tomori would add depth in a key position

It could be argued that West Ham can offer more opportunities for the Milan defender to play on a more regular basis than either Newcastle or Villa.

Following the summer departures of Angelo Ogbonna, Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd, the club only have three senior centre-backs, and head coach Julen Lopetegui could really do with a fourth.

Neither Konstantinos Mavropanos nor Jean-Clair Todibo have really been that convincing so Tomori’s addition to the squad would be welcomed if the finances can be made to work.
