Reliable Journalist Confirms West Ham Want £21M French Ace But Bundesliga Club Could Now Hijack Transfer

West Ham face competition from Eintracht Frankfurt for the signature of Marseille striker Elye Wahi, according to reports.

RMC Sport reporter Fabrice Hawkins, who is very reliable when it comes to transfers in France, has confirmed that the Hammers are “interested” in the 22-year-old, along with another English club.

However, Frankfurt have identified Wahi as their No.1 target to replace Omar Marmoush, who will sign for Manchester City over the coming days.

While Marseille are not looking to sell the forward, who only joined from Lens last summer, there is a possibility that a transfer could happen this month.

How much will Wahi cost?

Hawkins claims that Marseille want to at least recoup the €25m (£21m) plus add-ons they paid for the France Under 23 international.

That won’t be a problem for Frankfurt, who will receive an initial €75m for selling Marmoush to City, but it could prove to be a stumbling block for West Ham.

The Irons are limited in what they can do due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules so, unless they can negotiate a loan with an option/obligation to buy, they will be underdogs in the battle for Wahi’s services.

Who is the other English team competing with West Ham for the player?

The identity of the Premier League rival who could challenge the Hammers in the race for Wahi is unknown. Chelsea have tried to sign the Frenchman over the past couple of years, although it is believed they were hoping to recruit him for their feeder club Strasbourg.

Arsenal would also be another likely candidate. The Gunners have kept close tabs on the forward and they are keen to add numbers to their forward line following the injuries sustained by Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka.
