‘Being Watched Closely’ – West Ham, Chelsea And Man United All Tipped To Sign 26 Goal Striker For FREE Next Year

West Ham, Chelsea and Manchester United are among the clubs considering whether to sign Lille striker Jonathan David on a free transfer, according to Calciomercato.com.

The Italian website claims that the Canadian’s situation is “being watched closely” by the three Premier League clubs, along with Juventus and Inter Milan.

David’s contract with Lille expires next summer and there is no indication that he will extend his stay with the Ligue One side.

If his current deal is allowed to run down, the Hammers will be able to hold discussions directly with the player in January about signing a pre-contract agreement.

The forward would be a bargain for West Ham based on his current form

David scored 26 goals in all competitions last season and he has continued his form into this campaign, having scored 3 times in his first 7 appearances for Lille.

West Ham were reportedly among the teams considering buying the 24-year-old this summer, when it was reported he was available for around €25m (£21m). However, at the time, it was claimed that exorbitant agent fees had put off potential suitors. Things are likely to be different if he moves on a free.

While the Irons did bring in Niclas Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund, there were suggestions that the club were also hoping to sign another No.9 last month. Aston Villa’s Jhom Duran was heavily linked with a switch to the London Stadium but David would certainly be a cheaper alternative.

What has David said about his future?

Speaking about his future plans over the past week or so, the Canadian international said that he would be keen on a switch to the Premier League but it’s not the only destination he is considering:

“I’m open to anything. I think obviously the Premier League is regarded as one of the best league[s] in the world. And for me, it’s not the Premier League or bust. I’m open to anything and every league has its challenges.”
