West Ham are weighing up whether to sign either Carney Chukwuemeka or Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall on loan from Chelsea, according to ExWHUEmployee.
Writing on the West Ham Way Patreon (quotes via their website), Ex said that the Hammers are keen to reinforce their options in midfield (as well as upfront), and two Chelsea players could come under consideration:
“Our target position appears to be in central midfield, a box-to-box midfielder being the preferred choice and a new centre forward too.”
“One club who have a couple of players we could explore loans for are Chelsea. Two players that could be targets for loans are: Carney Chukwuemeka and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall both of which could provide options in midfield and are known for their energy. Of course, we could only sign one of them on loan as you are not allowed two loans from the same domestic club.”
Chukwuemeka is on the market
The 21-year-old moved from Aston Villa for £20m at the start of last season but he has not managed to impress Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca since his arrival in the summer.
Chukwuemeka has not made the matchday squad for a league fixture, with all his minutes coming in the Conference League and the Carabao Cup. He does have a £40m release clause in his contract but his club are believed to be open to loaning him out this month.
West Ham may have to work harder if they want Dewsbury-Hall
While Chukwuemeka is clearly surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, his teammate isn’t in quite the same position.
Dewsbury-Hall only joined from Leicester City in a deal worth £30m back in July but he has struggled to get game time in the Premier League.
Maresca has gone on record to say that he doesn’t want the midfielder to leave in January, although he hasn’t completely closed the door.
