Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler is likely to be the “next” target that West Ham will pursue, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Romano said that the Hammers have been working hard on several transfers but Soler is the likeliest player to be recruited before the transfer window closes at the end of the month:
“That (Soler) is a concrete option for West Ham. It’s true, he’s one of the names they have on their shortlist. And now, obviously, they will also need to assess all the possibilities and consider all the options… they’ve been putting a lot of efforts into bringing in these new players in recent weeks. Now they are considering Carlos Soler, it’s true, it’s a possibility. I think he could probably be the next one.”
West Ham will face competition for the midfielder
Romano and Relevo reporter Matteo Moretto claimed at the end of July that Real Sociedad were in “advanced talks” to sign Soler. However, there has been no update on that move over the past couple of weeks.
The main reason for that is because Sociedad see him as a “replacement” for Mikel Merino. The Spanish international is expected to join Arsenal but the two teams haven’t agreed a transfer fee for the midfielder yet.
If the Irons are to win the race for Soler, they may have to move fast to ensure Sociedad don’t get involved. The La Liga side will have the money for the PSG player once they offload Merino.
What do fans need to know about Soler?
The 27-year-old came through Valencia’s academy. He spent the best part of 18 years with Los Ches before he was sold to Paris Saint-Germain for €18m in the summer of 2022.
Soler has been a bit-part player since his move to France, having only started 26 league games over the past two seasons.
